On the afternoon of April 18th, the Psychological Research and Counseling Center (PRCC) and the Student Work Department of the Party Committee jointly held a group coaching in classroom X5501. The theme of this activity is "How to Interpret the Messages behind Negative Emotions". The training was hosted by associate Professor Zhang Xuewei and participated by 10 graduate students.
First, Madam Zhang organized an interactive activity to get the students to know each other and the atmosphere thus became livelier in a short period of time.
Then, Madam Zhang led the students to decipher the negative emotions. Zhang explained why people needed emotions, how emotions emerged, why sometimes emotions were difficult to perceive.
Madam Zhang said further: "Negative emotions not only cause physical and psychological imbalance but also indicate that our own needs have not been met. And this is the positive significance of negative emotions."
She also suggested that we should learn to coexist with negative emotions instead of reject and suppress it blindly. Furthermore, we should learn to identify and manage negative emotions.
Finally, Madam Zhang offered the following four suggestions on how to be the master of emotions: First, cultivate strong psychological resilience; second, fully experience the current experience; third, adjust feelings in a non-confrontational and non-destructive way; fourth, reasonably express our needs.
This psychological group coaching taught the students some valuable knowledge about emotions and aroused students’ interest in psychology.
