Due to the highly contagious and harmful nature of the pneumonia caused by the COVID-19 virus, the public are showing varying degrees of anxiety and panic. In the face of the grave situation caused by COVID-19, Professor Ning Weiwei, a psychological education professional, the deputy secretary-general of the Expert Steering Committee for the Mental Health of College Students under the Ministry of Education, a member of the Steering Committee for Teaching of the Psychology Disciplines of Universities of the Ministry of Education, a member of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Federation of Social Sciences, the President of the Sichuan Association for Mental Health Education and Research, a professor at the Psychological Research and Counseling Center of Southwest Jiaotong University led a team that put their expertise into practice and actively contributed their psychological assistance to the fight against COVID-19.
With the advocacy and support from the Sichuan Office for Cultural and Ethical Progress and the Sichuan Federation of Volunteer Services, Professor Ning Weiwei of SWJTU led a compiling team and partnered with the Southwest Jiaotong University Press, bearing in mind the needs of the public and densely-populated areas like schools and communities. They raced against time and published the e-book A Handbook for Psychological Assistance for Schools and Communities to Respond to the COVID-19 Outbreak.

Eight Chapters Telling the Public How to Relieve Stress
On February 14th, the e-book of A Handbook for Psychological Assistance for Schools and Communities to Respond to the COVID-19 Outbreak edited by Professor Ning Weiwei and co-edited by Sichuan Mental Health Research Association, “Mental Health Education and Research Center” (a key research base on philosophy and social sciences in Sichuan), “Psychological Research and Counseling Promotion Base” (a base for the promotion of philosophy and social sciences in Sichuan), the Central Academy of Fine Arts Committee of the Central Youth League of China was first launched on the official Wechat account of Southwest Jiaotong University Press.
Consisting of eight chapters, the handbook expounds in detail psychological assistance, crisis intervention, and psychological assistance in universities, high schools, primary schools, and communities. In addition, the handbook also explains the roles of student associations and volunteers, the exemplary role of CPC members and leaders, and public opinion guidance, etc. The aim is to ensure effective psychological crisis intervention for schools and communities, alleviate the potential psychological interference and harm caused by the outbreak, and guide the public to be rational, cool-headed, positive and upbeat, so as to tide over the difficulties and win the battle against the COVID-19 outbreak.
Soon after, the e-book was shared by a large number of portals and official Wechat accounts. “Great insight, great work, great efficiency!” “A work of expertise and dedication!” “Exactly what everyone needs, how timely!” “Really timely! It’s not only needed for the fight against the outbreak. It is also needed for many teachers, students and families even when the outbreak is over!” In just a short while, the e-book has already enjoyed high praise from experts, scholars and readers.
