May 20-21, 2017, the "2017 Chengdu Science and Technology Week", co-hosted by Chengdu Science and Technology Bureau, Publicity Department of the Chengdu Municipal CPC Committee, the Office for Cultural and Ethical Progress of Chengdu, Chengdu Education Bureau and Chengdu Association for Science and Technology, was successfully held in the Eastern Suburb Memory of Chengdu.

At the event, the Psychological Research and Counseling Center of Southwest Jiaotong University set up a booth with the theme of mental health, showcasing the highlights of the center, promoting its psychology salons and lectures, and offering the general public first-hand experience with psychology. In addition, teachers and students also distributed materials on mental health education, promoted mental health, offered consultation and explanation of common psychological issues, primers on mental health and showed results of such promotion efforts, etc.

During the event, teachers and students from the center worked actively and patiently answered questions raised by visitors. A couple was interested in psychological counseling. They filled out the questionnaire with the help of the teachers and received expert guidance. The questions most asked by the visitors involved parent-child relationships, how to improve their children's academic performance, work pressure, and marital and relationship issues, etc.

On the stage at the event, popular science dramas created by the center, such as Come Together for the Meteor Rain (by Dai Yue, Hu Yanan, Chen Mingyue, Pan Ziting, Guo Jinwen and Tian Li) and No Signal (by Zhang Jiaqi, Zhang Yi, Zhao Xuanhe and Ma Junyan), were also performed. The students showed profound science to the visitors in an easy-to-understand form and a cordial background based on daily life, calling on people to approach, understand and embrace science.

This Science and Technology Week brought people in close touch with science, and gave the center an opportunity to bring the science of psychology to the public. The significance of psychology lies not only in hard-to-understand textbooks and serious papers, but also in people's daily life. Such a great event for science not only provided a good opportunity for people in Chengdu to broaden their horizons, but also allowed our teachers and students to grow and develop a greater understanding of the science.

Finally, thanks go to the student-performers of the two dramas who participated in the event, as well as the faculty members (Tang Jing and Feng Guo) from the Science Popularization Base of the Center and the students (Yan Wang, Mo Xiyu, Bian Bapuchi, Wang Jingyan, Dai Fabin, Chen Xin and Huang Mingzhu) for their hard work.
