At 2 p.m. on Dec 5th, Glen Alan Jones, dean of the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and expert for SWJTU’s review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching, paid an inspection visit to the Psychological Research and Counselling Center. Accompanied by deputy director Chen Hua and faculty members, Dean Jones learned thoroughly about the various labs at the center and their functions and equipment and conducted an in-depth inspection of and offered guidance on the Center’s undergraduate teaching and mental health education.
Dean Jones visited labs including the catharsis room, the group coaching room, the bio-feedback lab, the virtual reality lab, the simulated psychological counselling room, the personalized psychological assessment room, and the specialized and fundamental research lab. During the visit, he spoke highly of the vital role played by the public service platform for mental health education in the nurturing of talent at the university.
The visit was concluded by an in-depth exchange session with the faculty members of the Center. The participants had extensive communication and exchanges in the following aspects: the pressures and challenges faced by the Center, the composition of the teaching team, the prospects of the graduated undergraduate students majoring in applied psychology, the internationalization of the applied psychology discipline, analysis of and countermeasures to the growing mental health issues of students, the development of new faculty members, and the social services offered by the Center in mental health.
