When offering psychological assistance to those elderly people, volunteers should love and respect them and be patient with them, having heart-to-heart communication with them. When giving psychological aid to the disabled and orphaned children, you should let them feel your enthusiasm, sincerity, compassion, and stance of equality, and help them build up their confidence, formulate their short-term goals and long-term plans for their future life.
In addiiton, Madam Zhang stressed that the special groups need more company and support, which are exactly what the college student volunteers are able to do.
The lecture given by Madam Zhang deepened the students’ understanding of the special groups and equipped them with the necessary knowledge and skills for offering psychological aid to the special groups.
