During the lecture, Madam Zhang mainly explained schizophrenia and depression. She noted that the impact of those diseases was serious, so counselors should pay special attention to schizophrenia and depression. She then introduced the symptoms of several mental diseases from both negative and positive aspects. Furthermore, she shared the knowledge and techniques on the identification of the symptoms of those mental diseases on the basis of her counseling experience.

Madam Zhang stressed that the identification of those mental diseases should be focused on students’ behavioral symptoms (such as diet and sleep), cognitive symptoms (such as senses of value, guilt, and shame), as well as their mental and emotional states. Counselors of students’ affairs need to provide better interpersonal support for students. In the process of counseling, counselors should actively seek the help of psychological counseling teachers and department-level leaders to form a joint team and improve the working mechanism of crisis intervention.
