At 13:30 on October 27, 2022, the Psychological Research and Counseling Center (PRCC) organized "Nurture Your Soul with Dancing" group counseling for 16 first-year students in classroom X2340 on Xipu campus. The group counseling was hosted by Gao Fei, an associate professor from the PRCC. Through expressive art techniques, this activity helped the students better stimulate their awareness of their own bodies, improve their understanding of the theory of physical and mental coordination, and use their body movements as a medium to break interpersonal barriers.
At the beginning of the activity, Madam Gao led the students to sit cross-legged in a circle, and then introduced in detail the specific process of this group counseling.
Then, with the sound of music the first activity began. Madam Gao pushed out the yoga ball and asked the student who touched the ball to tell about their feelings at the time. As the yoga ball rolled on, the estrangement in the students' hearts gradually disappeared.
In the second stage, Madam Gao posed special poses to symbolize her name. The students then followed suit. The atmosphere was lively after all those movements.
After the self-introduction, Madam Gao led the students to the next stage of the activity. Everyone closed their eyes in the music, found their partners with their senses, and then faced their partners for "eye contact" and "body binding”.
Finally, Madam Gao asked the students to sit in a circle again to express their feelings about participating in the activity.
One students said: “I learned a lot from this activity. In addition to the sense of vision, I also experienced the activity through hearing, touch and other senses.”
Another student said: "I got goodrelaxation after this fascinating activity, and I met so many new friends in such a short time."
This group counseling got the first-year students better prepared for the pace of college life and for the establishment of interpersonal connections.
