近年来，高雪梅教授团队一直围绕错失恐惧（Fear of Missing out，简称FoMO）与问题性社交媒体使用（Problematic Social Media Use，简称PSMU）开展系列研究，其中一项研究成果《Understanding daily problematic social media use of young adults: the role of trait- and state-fear of missing out》发表于公共卫生类期刊《Psychology & Health》（JCR一区，IF5=3.2）。
研究采用生态瞬时评估法（Ecological Momentary Assessment, 简称EMA），探究特质错失恐惧（trait-FoMO，简称TFoMO）和状态错失恐惧（state-FoMO，简称SFoMO）对日常生活中PSMU发生和发展的不同作用。
结果表明，SFoMO与PSMU之间存在显著的正相关。具体而言，当个体感受到较高的SFoMO时，他们对社交媒体的使用渴求、使用时长以及相关的自控失败频率都会显著增加，表现为会反复检查社交媒体，以满足未被满足的社交需求，从而陷入社交媒体使用的恶性循环。此外，研究还发现TFoMO在SFoMO与社交媒体使用渴求之间起到了调节作用，增强了SFoMO对使用渴求的即时影响。
这一发现首次揭示了FoMO和PSMU的即时关系及其潜在机制，与团队系列研究成果共同强调了错失恐惧在其中的关键作用，为制定针对性的心理健康干预措施提供了依据，有助于帮助年轻人建立健康的社交媒体使用习惯，减少因错失恐惧引发的焦虑和潜在成瘾问题，促进其心理健康和社会福祉。
高雪梅教授及其团队博士生李佳钰为论文共同第一作者，团队长期从事网络与青少年心理的相关研究，并在该领域积累了丰富的研究成果，研究得到了国家社会科学基金、重庆市自然科学基金、中央高校基本科研基金的支持。
